i often come home from work with a terrible headache. it's a mix of frustration and tiredness.
last week was the star chef event in new york. it's a big conference held where important chefs from all over the world come and do demos and there is a big gala announcing the next up and coming chef. after the gala is the after party which is industry only. somehow i got convinced to go. so after work on tuesday i attended my first industry party. i figured it's free drinks so why not. being in a room full of chefs, line cooks, pastry chefs and waiters is just weird. even though not many people from my restaurant are friends the handful of us who went stuck together and enjoyed our free beverages. that's the thing about restaurants. you stick with your people. it's like the movie warriors without all the violence. (although, i wish some sort of musical dance number fight had broken out.) we have our group and we stick by it. being around so many chefs freaks me out a little. we are weird people.
i still have such mixed feelings about this job. and when i pick up my paychecks on friday i still don't know if it's worth it.
and hey if you didn't know this is where i work: http://www.davidbouley.com/ . click on bouley or the bakery and you can see some of our menus.
tomorrow night i am going to a birthday dinner at momofuku saam bar and we are getting a whole pig and some of the most amazing steamed pork buns. can you guess how excited i am about this. and pregaming at another party (which is a kegger) at a place called dive bar. and i can take a cab home because i am house sitting in the city. tomorrow is going to be pretty amazing.
sleepy time.
